José Henrique Neto – eng

Born in Luanda, Angola, 1955. Diploma with Distinction and Director´s Award from The Drama Studio, London, 1983. Master´s in Theatre from the ESTC – Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, Portugal, 2018.

Professional début in South Africa, 1977, with the British touring production of The Rocky Horror Show. In Portugal since 1984, in the following year he worked with Amélia Rey Colaço and was a founding member of Marionetas de Lisboa.

Some highlights as theatre actor: Polónio in Hamlet (translation J.H.Neto, Teatro da Garagem, May 2012, Shanghai Shakespeare Festival 2016); Lumiére in A Bela e o Monstro (Beauty and the Beast), Leclerc/Von Schmelling in Allo Allo (Teatro Trindade and countrywide tours 2013-18); Prospero in The Tempest (Lisbon Players 2012); with the D. Maria II National Theatre, Bartolomeu de Gusmão in Saramago´s O Memorial do Convento (2009-2010);  Father António Vieira in Vieira-O Céu na Terra and Salazar in A Filha Rebelde (both 2008); at Teatro da Trindade, Jacques in Kundera´s Jacques e o Seu Amo (2007). With Teatro Extremo from Almada and Velho Palhaço Precisa-se (M. Visniec, transl. J.H. Neto) he represented the country twice in Brazil (Teresina 2009, São Paulo 2011).

Film and TV: lead in SIC TV´s Um Homem não é um Gato (2001), D. Marcos in the Luso-Brazilian co-production O Judeu (1995); D. Caetano Maia in João Botelho´s Os Maias (2014); Detective Morais in the TV series Sol de Inverno (2013-14).
